Library Board of Trustees Meeting

August 20, 2024
Minutes

This regular meeting of the Hamburg Township Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Hocking at 7:00pm in the Patricia Waters Community Room.

Present: Jodie Colone, Mary Evergreen, Richelle Hocking, Bridgette Rosek, Crystal Walter.
Absent: Matt Assenmacher.
Also Present: Holly Hentz, Christine Weber.

Approval of
1)  Motion to approve the agenda as presented made by Rosek; seconded by Walter.  Motion carried.
2)  Motion to approve the minutes of July 16, 2024 as presented made by Walter; seconded by Rosek.  Motion carried.

Call to the Public: None present.

Financial
1)  Motion to approve the June 2024 Financial Report as presented made by Walter; seconded by Colone.  Motion carried.
2)  Motion to approve the July 2024 Financial Report as presented made by Walter; seconded by Colone Motion carried.
3)  Motion to approve Library Voucher #653 in the amount of $128,182.06 made by Evergreen; seconded by Rosek.  Motion carried.

Librarian’s Report
1)  In-house Statistics: 4,729 patrons served; 74 new patrons; 7,598 items checked out; 137 computer uses.
2)  Online Statistics: 2,942 Libby; 271 Zinio; 0 Fold3; 0 Heritage Quest; 13 Tumble Books, 9 Niche Academy.
3)  Other News: Summer Reading 2024 has come to an end; 172 children finished their reading goal.  Newsletters are out.  New page, Holly Cooper, is working out well.
4)  Upcoming Programs

 

Correspondence
1)  None

Old Business
1)  Updated Library Logo: Lisa Assenmacher of Basil Design Studio has volunteered her services at no cost to the library.  She will begin with a questionnaire for the board and staff to complete and proceed from there.  She anticipates the project taking several months to complete.  Board assured her they would rather have a quality logo that will last a long time than something that was rushed.
2)  Roofing Update: Still no movement on the new roof.
3)  Meeting Room HVAC Update: Lakeside Service completed the project as planned and within budget.

New Business
1)  Motion to roll over Flagstar Bank CD maturing on 8/26/2024 in the amount of $266,718.63 + interest into a short term CD of 149 days at 4.99% made by Walter; seconded by Evergreen.  Motion carried.
Motion to roll over CIBC Bank CD maturing on 9/12/2024 in the amount of $263,693.75 + interest into a short term CD of 90 to 119 days at the best interest rate available made by Rosek; seconded by Walter.  Motion carried.
2)  Water quality report: Both the kitchen faucet and older drinking fountain had higher than normal lead amounts.  Pete Black Plumbing replaced the kitchen faucet and related plumbing under the sink and removed the older drinking fountain.  Water tests have come back showing no lead detected.

Friends Report with Debbie Kooperman
1)  Book Sale set for: donations Oct. 16-19, members only sale Oct. 19, open sale Oct. 21-26.
2)  Garden Committee is adding Dogwood Shrubs and Liatris to the Rain Garden and preparing    to replant the Spice Garden in the next few weeks.
3) June-July Gift Shop sales = $350.45
4) Annual Meeting-Election is scheduled 9/18/24 from 6:30-7:30pm 

 Relevant Board Issues
1) Annual Trustees & Directors workshop is set for Sept. 26 at 6:00pm at Hartland Library.
